My First Blog

This is my first blog and hopefully not my last. I think this will be good for me to spill my mind of all the different thoughts and ideas that keep swimming around in my head. Comments, suggestions, and ideas are always welcomed.

Welcome to the world of blogging Ron! I'm sure we'll all benefit from your insights!

I'm always glad to see more teachers blogging and reflecting on their teaching. I'm looking forward to your thoughts, Ron.

Congrats on doing this. Because of you, I'm making my first visit to a blog--prefer hard copies for news etc. You remain my hero on the tech mentor list. Sure wish you were w my district which ceased to support tech integration when my tech mentor grant ran out. I finished to the sound of one hand clapping, but will likely return to the classroom where I can make a difference where it counts. Hasta, Janet Brinkop

Wow! What support! Thanks guys! Me a hero? Hmmm...

OK...I thought about this hero thing. I have always admired any teacher who was willing to integrate technology with language learning. They are a different breed of teachers. So it is very difficult to see myself as a hero, though I appreciate the comment, when there are so many others who are my heroes too. I say we are all heroes for doing the things that we do for the sake of learning. My first hero was Susan Gaer at Santa Ana, who was doing this way before I even got started! In fact she was one of my first instructors on integrating technology. Since then, I have met many heroes along the way. Can you tell I'm not comfortable in the spotlight?

On behalf of an ESL student, I would recommend this website to anyone. It's very very helpful. Especially,in each page I can see how dedication the builder has put in. You're my model.

Thank you Rysellia for your comment. Hmmm...I didn't know ESL students visited blogs. You must have dedicated yourself to learning English as well, and it shows. I like your quote! I am also planning to publish how I go about setting up a class for a semester; the different steps I go through. Do you have a blog site too?

No, I don't have a blog. I've been searching the best way for me to learn new vocabulary. I found that I can remember and use those words correctly if I write stories with them. When I see your blog and read what you wrote, Bingo! It makes me think of a site that I can post my stories. I feel more motivated that way than write on a paper and put them in a folder. Thanks Ron, I can't wait to see the result. Now I'm looking for a free web space and how to do it.

In my class, I have students bring in new words they learn and use them in a sentence to help them understand and use the word effectively. The advanced students write paragraphs. Your idea of writing a story is an excellent idea! Why not create a blog and write your stories there? It's free and it's easy to set up. Sign up with Google and start writing! You can also identify the new words you are using. I would enjoy reading your stories and to see how you used your new words. Let me know when you get set up somewhere so I can start reading!

Rysellia, do you know how to create web pages? I have some available web space that I can share, if you want.

Ron, I have my own page now, but I dont' know how to put my story in. I want to make a link to each story so that the page have nothing but link title. Thanks!
